RASCAL FOOTBALL SHIRTZ: 'SHIRTS ARE ALL ABOUT MEMORIES'

Interview:  Rascal Football Shirtz | Shirt Collector & Kit Community Creative | Liverpool Fan.

This is Chris. As many of you will know, Chris is a a big part of the kit collecting community and showcases his growing collection of fabulous football shirts on Instagram, so make sure you check out his page (@rascalfootballshirtz)! We thought it was about time we had a chat with him to talk all things shirts and the nostalgia that they come with.

What do football shirts mean to you?

Football shirts just bring back amazing memories for me. Whether it's the iconic moments that I watched on TV, times spent down the pub with the lads, or games that I've been to, seeing certain shirts always bring back moments of either joy or despair! Shirts are just all about those memories.

Do you remember your first shirt?

I do - the first shirt I purchased was the Liverpool 1989 home shirt. At the time, I was only a wee nipper and I remember pestering my parents for it for my birthday! Unfortunately, I no longer have that exact shirt but I did manage to find an adult size a couple of years ago.

What is your favourite era of shirts?

It has to be the 90s, right? That's when I first started getting into football properly. Going to matches, watching games down the pub and, of course, the start of the Premier League. And nothing hits quite like those 90s shirts did.

How many shirts do you have in your collection, and is there one that particularly stands out?

I think I probably have around 1000 shirts in my collection, but my favourite has to be the 1988/89 Liverpool away shirt, absolutely iconic!

What is it that hooked you to supporting Liverpool?

The game that hooked me to Liverpool was the 1989 FA Cup final. It was the final shortly after Hillsborough. I remember seeing the heartbreak and how the whole of Liverpool came together as a city, and it made me want to be a part of that. Liverpool has been my team ever since!

Do you remember your very first game?

Yes! The first game I went to was England vs Brazil in June 1995, at the old Wembley. We went on a school trip and the seats were incredible. The game was great and it's fair to say I was definitely hooked after that!

One of my favourite games that I've been to was England vs Germany at Euro 2000 - my first England game abroad. The police, the water cannons, the sirens - it was chaos! England won 1-0 thanks to a Shearer goal and the whole day was just incredible!

I was also lucky enough to go the Euro 2004 final in Portugal. It wasn't the best of games but the whole experience of going to a final was a different level.

Do you have a moment from following Liverpool that you'll never forget?

Definitely the 2005 Champions League final! I watched it down the pub with my mates and let's just say the celebrations went on for a while! I also have to mention Liverpool winning the Premier League in 2024/25. Obviously winning it for the first time in 2019/20 was great, but winning it in front of supporters was different. I went to Liverpool for the trophy parade and had an amazing time! Seeing the city loud and proud was class!
